About Department:

The Philosophy department of Mahitosh Nandy Mahavidyalaya came into existence in the academic session 2008-2009 as an elective subject of three years General course. From the session 2010-2011 , Honours course in philosophy was introduced in our institution. Keeping in view the vision and mission statements of college, the department has taken successfully many initiatives and innovative steps in order to realize the achievement of goal of excellence in education. Admission in the Honours course is done on the basis of eligibility criteria fixed by the University of Calcutta. Department selects students for Honours purely on the basis of merit according to the marks obtained in the Higher Secondary examination. After admission they remain under a process of continuous supervision of the teacher. Regular internal evaluation through class test, mid-term test, test etc. are taken throughout the year. Students of philosophy department every year organize cultural and social functions like fresher’s welcome, Farewell to outgoing students, observance of teachers’ Day etc. These types of Programmes are very helpful in establishing healthy and congenial pupil-pupil relationship and teacher-pupil relationship. Moreover, this sort of programmes are helpful in identification of the talents of the students in the various non-academic spheres.

In the session 2018-2019 CBCS (Choice based credit system) is introduced by the Calcutta University in our department like all other departments.
